Here and There

When asked in India, Arunav said,"My language is English." It took me quite some time to draw parallels of his friends who are natives of England and natives of India before I could to some extent explain to him how Bengali and Hindi are his language. He listened and kept quiet but still did not say his language is Hindi/Bengali....

Bha(n)r

This is the bha(n)r (earthen pot) in which Arunav had sugarcane juice, crushed in front of him by putting the canes through two sets of rollers moving in opposite direction. He was so fascinated, we had to bring this to HongKong....

Home is where the heart is....

We had a short but fabulous India trip. I relish now fond memories of:

Spicy Phuchka
Aakher Ros - Lovely crushed sugarcane juice
Bhutta - Hot charcoal grilled and spiced up Corn cobs
Mishti Doi(typical Bengal sweet curd)
Bhapa Ilish - steamed Hilsa
Nolen Gurer Ice Cream(thanks to a great friend)
Jilipi(not Jalebi)..ok you look it up this time

Arunav enjoyed the fishes, phuchka(yes, he did not find that spicy), bhutta, Akher ros....and added to it were his rides on:

Auto Rickshaw
Rickshaw
Bus

Everyday Didun had to take him out for one. He did not fancy the taxis too much. He was curious about the market place. Aarushi has become more social(so says my friends) after coming back - she is so used to tons of strangers giving her attention and she behaving touch-me-not.

Summer Funs

This year has been a record beach going year for us. I guess it is the HK influence where beaches are so accessible and the easiest thing to do with kids....
Beaches we did so far this season: Repulse(multiple times), SaiKung(Hap Mun Bay), Discovery Bay, Shek-O(again multiple times), Deep Water Bay....and after days we gave it a break. Mostly, mama got tired of the cleaning up after the beach (get rid of the sand, wash the salt off, wash the sunscreen off, put after-sun lotion...huff-n-puff).
Now we will be off to Europe - so hoping for cooler times and also drier ones :)
