Sweet Sweet Innocence
Here in HK, seat belting rules are not very strictly enforced and it is quite rare for people at the back seat to put on seat belts. They are trying to change that and very often when I come back a bit late in the night in a taxi, we find police randomly stopping taxis to check for seat belts. Taxi drivers quickly slow down when they notice police at a distance and shouts,"Seat Belt" - passengers scramble quickly to put it on before the crawling taxi reaches the random police checkpoint. Police gives a cursory glance and lets the taxi go by - even though it is quite clear the passenger could not manage to clamp it on - is just holding down the seatbelt somehow!
I did not realize what conclusions Arunav has drawn from his observations of this whole process till today. We were coming back from a friend's house down the hilly roads of HK and Arunav was generally chanting rules he has learnt,"We have to brush in the morning and night and after eating chocolate; We have to take bath everyday." As the taxi swerved he suddenly said,"If there is a police we have to wear seatbelts." The Taxi Driver burst out laughing and barely managed not to hit the taxi in front!
